Midlife Gay Men Announce Calendar
by Dan Miller for the San
Francisco Spectrum
Midlife Gay Men is an organization for all gay & bisexual
midlife men, both HIV negative & positive. They are a group
of midlife gay/bisexual men, mutually empowered to collaboratively
share and create an authentic, healthy new community. They take
a proactive, positive approach to develop friendships and to maximize
the quality of their lives. Their members define the term “midlife”
as they wish, but most are in their 40s and 50s.
They have a request: Do you know anyone with a minivan, passenger
van, or a minibus that would let MGM use it occasionally for day
trips in exchange for a significant tax deduction? If so, please
email them at mgm-mhr@onebox.com.
Calling all computer geeks--share your expertise! Calling novices
too--if you know how to operate an older computer, you know enough
to help. Volunteers are needed for the Computer Project to help
prepare donated computer systems for delivery to low-income members.
They also need disks of Microsoft Windows and Macintosh operating
systems. They also need software like MS FrontPage and Adobe Photoshop,
Elements, and Album. Please email them to volunteer or donate.
Volunteers are needed for their Rapid Service Volunteer Program
for those wishing to provide short-term assistance to HIV/AIDS clients.
Your commitment would be immediate, short term, and limited. Call
(415) 863-1581 if interested.
Upcoming November 5th: Join ten of your peers for MGM's next five-week
Friday evening Midlife Discussion & Therapy series starting
November 5th called "Gay & Bisexual Men Thriving in Mid-life"
for both HIV negative and positive guys facilitated by therapist
Jerome Braun, MFT. Topics in the series will include: The Landscape
of Mid-life; Loss, Isolation, and Depression; Dating & Long-term
Relationships; Drugs & Alcohol at Mid-life; Imagining a Conscious
Death; Who Am I Now; Being the Role Model & Being the Community;
Spirituality & Mid-life. Group meets 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at a
downtown San Francisco conference room at Powell & Market. Attendance
at each of the five sessions is essential to receive the full benefits
of the series. An additional optional three sessions at the same
time and place are available to attendees who wish additional specialized
support. No charge for the series, but donations are appreciated.
Please call Jerome Braun to register at (415) 984-0501.
Upcoming in November is their next series of "New Horizons,"
a professionally facilitated "In-Depth Psychotherapy Group
for HIV positive guys," that will begin in mid-November. This
group requires a three-month commitment to weekly sessions and is
not appropriate for individuals looking for weekly drop-in support.
Please contact therapist Jerome Braun for details.
Upcoming in December, volunteers are needed for Snow Ball, their
huge holiday party in December that will also celebrate the Fifth
Anniversary of MGM. Snow Ball is co-hosted by STOP AIDS' "In
Our Prime." Have fun meeting new people as a greeter at the
door, as a wine/beer bartender, or as a circulating hors d’oeuvre
waiter. Please email MGM if interested. MGM is located at 4321 18th
Street, SF 94114, email = mgm-mhr@onebox.com.
