Dear Diva

Dear Diva Democrats

It is time for us to embrace the future. The horror of having Bush steal the presidency has propelled Diva into nearly 4 years of having to do constant research just to watch our collective backs as the Bush team has sought to over throw American democracy from within. These have been very dark years, and even the humor has an undercurrent of a terrifying danger.

America is about freedom, and freedom is about the individual and a true appreciation for all of creation. In my work on television I get to speak to many people each year, interviewing them on a wide variety of topics. It strikes me every day in the editing room how amazingly beautiful every individual is. It matters not if they are a movie star, a politician, a crime victim or a homeless person. Each is beautiful, and it is so easy to see the hand of Creation and the kiss of Divinity in every single person. What Bush has done to tarnish that beauty is unforgivable, and will not be forgotten by history.

We must reclaim our country. But there is something that has been stolen from us that Diva fears may never be reclaimed—our sense of hope. In three and one half short years the eyes of youth have been dimmed with suspicion. Friends have trouble trusting others as they once did not long ago. Neighbors are not friendly as much, and everyone is quick to acknowledge an assumed fault in another. We must not let our national hope be taken from us. We must elect John Kerry and John Edwards—our very humanity is at stake.

Below are some of the many questions Diva has received in this election year.

Dear Diva,

What is the most important issue in this election? I’m so confused between the economy, taxes, Iraq, terrorism, abortion, jobs, gay marriage, civil liberties ---- HELP! The world used to be so much simpler. How can anyone decide the most important issues to consider.

Confused

Dear Media-Informed Citizen,

My dear, the most important thing in this election is exactly what John Kerry’s mother said – integrity, integrity, integrity. Here is what the dictionary says about that word: “moral uprightness, honesty, wholeness, soundness.” Ask yourself on each of the issues, what a president must do to operate our country with those qualities in the fore. The economy must be held to a standard of integrity that couldn’t allow for corporate greed, tax breaks for the rich, and penalty for the poor. Taxes must be sound, honest and fair. Iraq must be restored, made whole again, given back to the Iraqi people. Terrorism must be held to the standard of decency and moral correctness, with terrorists punished relentlessly, starved out of hiding. Abortion is a medical decision between a woman, her doctor, her family and her religious belief—the government has no business playing any role other than to make sure people aren’t harmed by unclean hospitals and untrained doctors should an abortion be decided upon. Jobs must be created—for Americans, in America! Love between people is love between people and should be celebrated and supported. And finally, Americans must be free once more.

The choice is clear. Bush is a liar, cheat, bully, and is corrupt and elitist. Need I say more?

Dear Diva,

Bush scares me, but Kerry leaves me cold. And Nader, well, is he serious? How do I decide who should be president? They all seem like such losers.

Looking for a Viable Option

Dear Undecided,

You’ve seen what Bush did as President. Now go to your town council, or city hall, or to Washington and sit in on a legislative session in progress. We need a president who can sit in an uncomfortable chair for many hours each day, listening to blow-hards pretend they are helping people when they are simply on a narcissistic mission to grab more power and riches for themselves. Kerry leaves me cold too, and isn’t that a good thing in that setting?

Do not think that a president should be an average Joe. He will have to deal with the other rulers in the world. Yes, THAT bunch of criminal sadists. We need someone who can be removed, is VERY intelligent, is so rich they can’t be bought and can out wait, out sit, out stall everyone else at the table. Why do you think the Queen of England has lasted so long? She is the very picture of drab, and that is spectacularly effective in the halls of power.

Nader is nuts.

Dear Diva,

I hate to be shallow, but look at the first ladies. Yuk! I’m into glam, chic, and the whole scene. If Mrs. Kerry has billions of dollars, why can’t she get someone to iron her clothes?

Hard Pressed to be Impressed

Dear Off-the-Rack,

Diva is reminded of the questioner who wrote in wondering what kind of dishwasher detergent is best to use with leaded crystal. Are you he? Poly/cotton blends that are permanent press are clearly all you know. Linen, silk, high grade wools, and other upscale fabrics wrinkle when you merely think of wearing them. It is the mark of money to have clothes that react to their surroundings. Look at the paintings of royalty from hundreds of years ago. See the wrinkles? See the skirts with fold marks? Well, my dear commoner, these are the marks of expense and excess.

I ask you, where are the wrinkles in Laura Bush’s clothes?
